The world Famous Blackpool Illuminations and Trams

Just as the kids go back to school after their Summer Holidays, the nights begin to draw in earlier and earlier and other British Seaside resorts have pretty much finished for the year then do not despair as Blackpool Promenade comes alight with literally Hundreds and Thousands of light Bulbs! Stretching from Starr Gate on the South Promenade and goes on and on past the Pleasure Beach, on up to the Tower, further on to Gynn Square and continues until finally, no less than 6 miles later reaches its conclusion in Bispham.

Blackpool Illuminations is now into its second century of providing all the family with this magical Autumn festival of Spectacular lighting. Many hundreds of different scenes line the Promenade from start to finish and also includes the Pleasure Beach's very own Pespi Max Rollercoaster and other rides being lit up to compliment the Illuminations perfectly. That's not all, who could forget the Blackpool Tower which also joins the party with its own unique style which uses more than 5,500 new lights, each with 42 individual LEDs inside of them capable of producing over 16 million colour combinations which will create different patterns to be formed as part of eye-catching displays.

The Illuminations starts on the first Friday after August Bank Holiday Weekend which means this year is 31st August 2018. The 'Switch on' concert takes place on this night at the 'Tower Festival Headland' which is just in front of the iconic Blackpool Tower. This show always attracts star studded talent from the presenter to the pop bands performing on stage and then finally the Famous celebrity who 'flicks the switch'.

While many people like to use the car to see the Illuminations, we would always recommend using one of the many Trams (some of which are the traditional Heritage Trams which themselves are brightly lit for the occasion) which travel the whole length of the Promenade as this has definitely got to be a more leisurely way of seeing the Illuminations instead the inevitable traffic Jams that will occur.

This year the Illuminations continue for 66 consecutive nights ending on Sunday 4th November 2018
